Hillsborough, CARRIACOU: Students enrolled with CAMS’ Media Institute (CMI) for its 2011-12 Media Studies and Empowerment Training program were encouraged to let professionalism be their watch-word as they pursue a career in the media. Speaking at the Carriacou Multi-Purpose Centre in Hillsborough, Principal of the Hillsborough Secondary School on Monday October 3rd Mr. Brian Lendore called on the fifteen students to take this opportunity for training seriously if they are to make a difference as media practitioners in Grenada and the region.

CMI has facilitated several media training programs on the mainland – Grenada and is now providing an opportunity for young people in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The orientation sessions were held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Classes will be held from October 2011 to January 2012.

Dean of Studies - Mr. Milton Coy described the training as timely for young people in Carriacou and Petite Martinique to fulfill their dreams of making a career in the media. He said, "we welcome the opportunity to provide this training to students and young adults who are interested in empowering themselves through education and knowledge about the media". Mr. Coy noted that, as the motto for the Institute stands - "knowledge aids comprehension and with the right attitude is powerful" – reflects the philosophy of the program and the focus to empower Caribbean nationals through basic media training.

The twelve week-program focuses on basic journalism, public relations and promotions, personal and attitudinal development, time and personal management, career development and the writing RIGHT principles. Classes are conducted from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Participants will be awarded a certificate in Media Studies at the successful completion of the program. Students are expected to complete more than fifty (50) hours in both theory and practical sessions during the course.
